On Wednesday the 13th of March, the third USER-FACTOR knowledge exchange workshop; ‘Implementing design support pilots’ took place at the City of Culture of Galicia located in Santiago de Compostela, northwestern Spain.
In the months leading up to the workshop each partner was busy planning their regional design support pilots. This workshop provided the opportunity to share implementation plans and to identify potential opportunities for collaboration among partners in the future delivery of the supports.
The first part of the workshop comprised of the presentation of each regions implementation plan followed by open feedback from the group. In the afternoon, each partner developed a service blueprint of phases of their support from the perspective of the target companies. This assisted in understanding how the support will be delivered.
Service Blueprint of pilot supports
The implementation plans highlighted that all partners have a clear direction for their design support pilot. While enabling SME’s through service and user-centred design are central to all supports, the approaches are diverse, and include;
- Building novel relationships within the academic environment;
- Evaluating existing innovation support in order to improve current offerings;
- And, building communities centred around a collective purpose.
Each partner shared their desire to develop tailor-made design tools for the target companies in each region. Additionally, it was discussed that developing the supports through a service design approach is already beginning to highlight the positive effect that it can have internally within the support agencies.
Partners will continue to deliver their pilots in the coming months and USER-FACTOR will increase in coverage and reach.
